Trigger Point Therapy

-Trigger points are tight areas or knots within the muscle tissue that can cause pain in other areas of the body. For example a trigger point in the upper back or neck can refer pain to the head. This pain can either be a sharp or dull pain, but most commonly will be confused with a migraine or a headache.

Trigger point massage therapy is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through focus on each and every trigger point. In this type of massage the recipient actively participates through deep breathing as well as identifying the exact location and intensity of the discomfort. Once located each trigger point will be nurtured through cycles of isolated pressure and release.

The benefits of trigger point therapy are to release constricted areas of muscle that are causing certain pain patterns. It is also beneficial in increasing range of motion and ease of movement in chronically injured joints as well.


Swedish Massage

-Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of bodywork performed today. If it’s your first time at the studio or you don’t get massage very often, Swedish massage is the perfect place to start.

One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage is especially beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.


Deep Tissue Massage

-Deep tissue massage is a type of massage that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness and sore shoulders.

Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down adhesions in muscles, tendons and ligaments to relieve pain and restore normal movement. Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage but with deeper pressure. Often times the massage therapist will use direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscle.
